Make sure it's named Sims4TrayImporter.app and move it in you Applications folder:

The path should now be "/Applications/Sims4TrayImporter.app" or "~/Applications/Sims4TrayImporter.app" if you use your local Applications folder.

Then apply the chmod:

chmod +x /Applications/Sims4TrayImporter.app/Contents/MacOS/Sims4TrayImporter

or

chmod +x ~/Applications/Sims4TrayImporter.app/Contents/MacOS/Sims4TrayImporter

I'm using a Mac laptop and it worked on the one that I had previously, but on this new one it doesn't seem to work. I can download it just fine, but it keep saying this application cannot be opened.

Hey there I've been trying my best to make sense of these steps, some of this is going over my head if I'm being honest, but I used to love the tray importer and used it all the time on my old PC but no matter what I do I keep getting the same "The application "Sims4TrayImporter" can't be opened". I'm on Catalina. Has anyone managed to figure this out?

I did not put a space between the + and x

The file is named Sims4TrayImporter.app, it's not a duplicate

The file is in applications

Edit: When typing the chmod command into the terminal I get a message that reads "No such file or directory" even though the file is in applications and is named correctly

The command double-click thing did not work for me, the "open anyway" pop-up does not show up in my system preferences.

There is two Applications folders on Mac, one for all users and one for the current user. /Applications and ~/Applications (or /Users/<username>/Applications)

chmod +x /Applications/Sims4TrayImporter.app/Contents/MacOS/Sims4TrayImporter

or

chmod +x ~/Applications/Sims4TrayImporter.app/Contents/MacOS/Sims4TrayImporter

or

chmod +x "/Users/<username>/Applications/Sims4TrayImporter.app/Contents/MacOS/Sims4TrayImporter"

OKAY SO. I've only started playing Sims 4 a few months ago, and on top of that, I did it on a Mac (which seems blasphemous for a lot of people). I'm not a gamer of any sorts so this is really just for fun for me.

Next, I started playing around with Mods and CC even more recently, so it's safe to say I don't really know what I'm doing in those areas most of the time.

Now, since I'm fairly new to this, it was inevitable that I would mess up and end up with broken CC in my game... so here I am, quarantined at home and deciding to really dive into what I've been pushing aside because of school, work, and life...

SO, for anyone who is struggling to get Sims4TrayImporter to work on their Mac and more specifically on MacOS Catalina... this is how it worked for me.

I've spent pretty much the whole day trying to get Sims4TrayImporter to work for me, back and forth with doing other things at home.. but.. as is indicated on the page

we're supposed to download this Mono software for the Sims4TrayImporter app to work. Basically I followed all the instructions I could find on that page and on those threads over here which directed how to kind of troubleshoot the system or whatever (sorry for my immense lack of knowledge in proper terminology), with the Terminal app and by allowing my computer to run unidentified developpers' apps through System Preferences>Security&Privacy>General and then clicking the lock on the bottom left corner and entering my password.

I'm not sure which version of the Mono software allowed it to work for me, because I tried the most recent updates (2019,2020) but I also tried versions 5.16 and 5.18 that you can find here https://download.mono-project.com/archive/ because one page that I will link when I find it again was saying to try those versions for one of Mac's older OS.

THEN what really did it for me was through the Terminal app, I'd been trying to enter chmod +x  /Applications/Sims4TrayImporter/Contents/MacOS/Sims4TrayImporter over and over but then I saw this

Note :

at the bottom of the download page that said to run that command twice in a row in the Terminal app... and I did, maybe more than twice and then I'm not sure the Sims4TrayImporter app opened on its own or if I clicked it but it finally opened!!!

I also had the System Preferences>Security&Privacy>General open right next to the terminal app and the finder just in case it would prompt me with the "open anyway" tab while I was trying to override this whole thing.

So, despite this being I'm sure a very messy explanation, I hope that it will be able to help some other people that are struggling like I was!

*Please let me know if I should edit this later to add the French translation as I've seen a lot of folks navigating between both languages and I'd hope that I can reach and help more people by accommodating them with a translation.

Anyways, thank you so much to everyone who's commented on this thread, it helped tremendously!!!

Now to see if I'll be able to actually use the app and delete/fix the broken CC in my game... ☺️

I've figured it out!!! I got it to work on my MacBook pro and I'm running Catalina 15.3. To get the app to run you must hold down COMMAND+double click the app. You will then get a popup where you give permission to open the app by clicking "Open". Open System Preferences the in the General tab click the "Open Anyway".

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO OPEN THIS APP FOR THE LONGESTTTT!! I READ THROUGH THIS ENTIRE THREAD AND FOLLOWED ALL THE STEPS AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WORKED!! I WAS PULLING OUT MY HAIR BECAUSE I HAVE SO MUCH UNWANTED/BROKEN CC I NEED OUT MY GAME AND I FINALLY CAME ACROSS YOUR POST AND I FINALLY GOT IT TO WORK BECAUSE OF YOU!! THANK YOU SO MUCH OMG IM SCREAMING!!! LOL!!!
