This is Hermes, the herald of the gods. Hermes is considered the protector of travelers, thieves, and merchants. He is known to be able to travel freely between Olympus and the Underworld using his winged shoes. Because he was able to travel between worlds, he played the role of "psychopomp" - a soul guide into the afterlife.
In myth, he is best known as the messenger between the gods and is often considered to be a "trickster".
