Psyche

This is Psyche, the goddess of the soul. She is a former mortal princess whom was often described as to be so beautiful, men stopped leaving offerings to Aphrodite and instead worshipped herself.

In jealousy, Aphrodite sent her son Eros to shoot Psyche with an arrow and force her to fall in love with a hideous monster. Instead, Eros fell in love.

Psyche was spirited away to Eros' abode and told to never gaze upon his face nor ask his name.

In her myth, Psyche's jealous sisters tricked her and lead Psyche to believe that Eros was a hideous beast. Because Psyche had never seen his face before, she fell for their deceit and took it upon herself to find out the truth. One night, Psyche took a knife for protection and an oil lamp for light and went into Eros' bedchamber. As she stood over Eros, a drop of hot oil fell into his body. Eros woke and suddenly realized he was betrayed. Eros fled to his mother Aphrodite.

In revenge for her son, Aphrodite made Psyche partake in 4 trials:

1. Sort barley, millet, poppy seeds, lentils, and beans.

2. Gather a hank of wool from the golden sheep.

3. Fill a crystal decanter full of water from the river that feeds into the river Styx and Cocytus.

4. Get a box of Persephone's beauty (essence).

For the last trail, Persephone had tricked Psyche and instead of beauty, there was only the essence of death.

Eros was over-come with grief and had forgiven Psyche. He brought her body to Olympus and there she was turned into a goddess.
